Each one of my paintings is a hand-created snapshot of a particular moment in time yet always representative of now. Relationships, ideas and concepts are worked out using color, form, line and texture as I feel my way directly onto the painting surface. In the end I am looking for an enigmatic quality that speaks about who I am in a way I've not known before. Each piece is a combination of materials; I favor acrylic and pastel with ink, conte crayon or charcoal, on either wood or unstretched canvas. I like working on a harder surface versus stretched canvas. I have lived in the Philadelphia area since birth and work out of my home in Wynnewood. I am self-taught in painting and have been working full time as an artist for several years now. My formal art training consisted of a brief period of study in design and life drawing at the Philadelphia College of Textiles & Sciences (now Philadelphia University), and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art back when I considered working in interior design. My work is available online as well as in galleries. Commissions are welcomed. ....This all sounds so serious....actually I really like to have fun so maybe you'll see another side of me at http://www.flickr.com/people/maryannwakeley/
